Hold my Hand Britain

Ok guy's, this post is more of  rant than anything else, but after visiting my Local doctors today, I just had to vent my frustration.

Why do we live in a country where everyone expects someone else to do everything for them? I wish I had the answer, but that is the question that has drove me to write this Blog today. As I said, I was at my local doctors today, and I was 13th in the queue to check-in. Now I was only there to order a repeat prescription, but 11 out of the other 12 were checking-in to see the doctor. Just to the left of the receptionist, we have a nice big fancy self check-in terminal. This terminal is so easy to use. Step 1, enter date of birth. Step 2, click on your name. Job done. Now, out of the 11 people in the queue who checked-in, how many do you think used that Terminal?

Yes. No a single person touched the machine. Why? Because it's so much easier to open your mouth & get someone else to do it for you. Why would someone want to waste there energy lifting there hand up & pressing 7 buttons on a machine (6 buttons for date of birth & 1 click on your name), when they can just say it & someone else will press the buttons (in this case, the receptionist).

Now this really, really pisses me off. I have worked in customer service for the best part of 10 years now, and no matter where i do Customer service, it's the same thing.
Here are some other examples (that I have legitimately dealt with in the past)

Woking at a Digital TV company: Man rings up to order a Movie on box office. Seem simple enough. When questioned as to why he didn't just press select on the channel to order it, his real response was (and i really ain't lying) The phone was closer than my remote.......

Working at a Phone company: Woman rings up & ask's me to go through the charges on her latest bill. Once again, fair enough. Except, she had a copy of the bill there with her, but (in her words) 'It's easier for me if YOU (meaning me) read out what numbers i have been calling the most'.....

I really, really could go on with there. People buy a new mobile phone. Why would they want to set it up when they can ring there mobile provider & get them to set it up. Someone buy's a new TV & rings the electrical retailer up for help with Tuning it in (another legit one I have dealt with). Or someone has a power cut & rings there TV company because the TV wont come on (Funny story this one, I'll Blog it one day). I mean really?? Really?? REALLY??

WTF UK.

For anyone who reads this, please, please do me a favour. STOP BEING SUCH A LAZY SHIT, READ THE MANUAL, BEAT THE QUEUE BY USING SELF CHECK-IN & FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE LEARN TO DO THINGS FOR YOURSELVES!!

I genuinely think if company's started to charge for stupid questions, people would soon learn to do things for themselves. Want help tuning your tv (because you cant be arsed to read the manual), that will cost 25p per min. Need help setting up your new mobile phone? That a one-off charge of £5. Too stupid to realize a power cut will turn off your tv? ok, maybe not a charge, but some major re-education needed. Company's NEED to start charging for doing things for there customers. It's the only way the UK will learn to do things themselves

Rant over. Now can someone please press the 'Publish' button on my Blog....
